Contributors to the Green movement may use petra-k and chico in the event your ISP's name server stops working.

This happens mostly to people who rely on their employers' networks for Internet access.

Without petra, you might be tempted to use 206.13.28.12 (Pacific Bell) or 207.217.77.42 (Earthlink)

If you use Unix (including Linux), edit /etc/resolv.conf and add the lines

at the end of the file. If you use BIND, add them to your forwarders list.

In MS-Windows-95/98, edit the properties of your TCP/IP stack and select the DNS tab. Add the two nameservers last. Since Microsoft doesn't let you add comments to your nameservers list, make a little note with the names of the servers and tape it to the underside of the case. But don't block any ventilation holes.
