[Announce-DAN] From Palestine

A close Palestinian friend of mine sent the following to a mutual friend on 
Friday.  She is Palestinian, lives in Ramallah in the West Bank, and works 
in Jerusalem.  I thought I'd share it as it gives information from someone I 
trust living there.

Area A areas, for those of you unfamiliar with the terminology, are areas in 
the West Bank and Gaza that are under the Palestinian Authority; Area B 
places are under joint Israeli and Palestinian control; and Area C's are 
under the Israelis.  Many Palestinians live in all three areas.  Israeli 
settlers live only in Area C.  The West Bank is a giant patchwork quilt, and 
it's a very small area.

None of this applies to any part of East Jerusalem, which Israel 
unilaterally annexed in 1967.

My friend's note:

I am sorry I haven't been able to write earlier. It has been difficult to 
get in to work every day [because of the closure--she has to sneak in] and I 
don't have internet access at home.

I am well, and my family are doing well, despite all the troubles. The
shootings are still going on and people living outside area A are constantly 
in fear of the settlers attacking them, especially at night. Tanks are 
surrounding most of the towns, and they have used tank fire at protesters 
and at homes during the night, in several locations. I know you have been 
hearing from Marina and must know about the bombing of the theater. The 
situation is really awful and we need all your prayers and support. We 
appreciate all you are doing, and appreciate your love and concern for us.
