Friends,

The election is near. It will be both an ending and a beginning for us.
We have done tremendously well. Kudos to all that have worked so
vigorously as volunteers. What we have done is risen from a nearly
non-existent state party (no candidates running, no discernible
political presence, very few local activists or organizations) to a
party that has earned the right to be considered a force in the outcome
of the state-wide presidential election, with thousands of active
workers, official presence in many areas, and a base of support that
makes us not just A third party, but THE third party in the state that
is feared by the powers that be. We have become a grassroots political
phenomenon in Florida: Make no mistake about it. We must not let this
effort wither away.

Whatever happens in this election, we must hang in there and form into
local affiliates of the Green Party! It is clear now that the liberal
Democrats cannot be trusted to be what they claim! Paul Wellstone came
out against the one candidacy that would put into effect most of what
he's said he wanted for this country. Many others joined in that effort.
Democrats and Republicans alike can be depended upon to attempt to
diminish and destroy us by whatever means available. It will be a major
struggle to keep the Greens intact and get all the local campaign
organizations developed into actual party affiliates and working to
elect local office holders. We must be wise, diligent, willing to expend
energy and money to do so. We need a strong State party in Florida to
support the necessary logistics of helping the stronger locals support
the weaker, and the Greens in areas without locals to support the areas
that do have locals. We should establish some paid positions, locate and
recruit those among us who can work full time without pay, and put them
to work on assessing where we stand post-election, and make suggestions
as to how to best form into a viable (i.e. competitive) state party, win
as many local seats as possible in coming elections, establish what
current issues to address, and recruit viable state-wide candidates. We
should also create a legal team at the state level capable of fending
off attacks and supporting locals when and where needed.

I suggest we get e-groups together to discuss such things asap. That the
campaign organizations that have been formed be reconstituted from the
ground up, taking into consideration the democratic decentralization
methods of organization over the appointment method of the "coordinator"
based structure that served the campaign organizations. Locals should
take time to decide for themselves who shall be their officers based on
the new realities of the current level of active persons involved in
them. Many new and talented folks are involved now that were not at the
time of their origin. They should be given a chance to make themselves
known and we should have elections rather than appointments determine
local officers. I suggest a moratorium on elections until after the 1st
of the year to give time for us to overcome the inertia of the campaign
organization, and for reassessment of where each local stands now; Time
to get to know one another better (and god knows we all can use a
break).

These above mentioned realities exist at the state level as well, and
some consideration should be given to having the future locals having a
confederated voice at state level organization and officers elections
after the locals are fully organized.
