Subject:	Co-op - pass it on

Hi Folks,
Here is a brief update on the Boulder Cooperative Market. We are now at 180
members and will surely pass 200 by the end of November. Thanks very much to
all those who have already joined the co-op.

Our next goal is to reach 300 members by December 16, the day of our 300
Founding Members Party, 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Masonic Temple, 2205
Broadway in Boulder. With your help we can meet that goal. You can help by:
1.	Passing this e-mail on to many others who may be interested in the co-op.
(With a little effort this e-mail could reach 25,000 people in Boulder.)
2.	By becoming a member of the co-op before December 16.
3.	By volunteering to help with our membership drive. Call 303-702-1891 if
interested.
We are getting close to leasing a site near central Boulder for the co-op,
although we still need to build our membership to make this possible. With a
stong member base, we'll also be better able to acquire loans for equipment,
inventory and other start-up costs.

I have enclosed our brochure and joining form. We greatly appreciate any
help you can offer.

In case you cannot open the attachments, here is the basic information about
membership:

Membership Benefits
Membership provides you with a 5% discount on all purchases at the co-op,
plus discounts at several other Boulder businesses.
Membership makes you an owner of the co-op and entitles you to equal voting
power with all other members in the election of the board and on issues
raised by the members.
Membership provides discounted or free entry to classes and community
events. The co-op plans to hire a community organizer to put together
classes on cooperatives, vegetarian nutrition, cooking and yoga, and to
organize potlucks, parties and other community events.
Working Membership entitles you to around 15% discount (still in discussion)
on purchases for working 10 hours per month at the co-op.
Founding Membership will be offered to the first 300 members of the co-op.
Your willingness to help initiate the co-op will create a foundational
support in the community life of Boulder for decades to come.

Membership Information
There are three ways to become a member of the Boulder Cooperative Market:
Annual Membership
You can join the co-op by paying a one-time, non-refundable joining fee of
$25 and an annual deposit of $25 ($50 first year). Membership can be renewed
by paying $25 each year. When your annual deposits reach $250, you become a
lifetime member.
Lifetime Membership
You can become a lifetime member of the co-op by paying an up-front deposit
of $250, with the same benefits and powers as other members. The advantages
are:

1. If you wish to leave the co-op for any reason, your $250 will be
returned within one year of notification.
2. The $25 joining fee is waived.
Two-Person Household/Family
Membership
A household membership is $35 per year plus a one-time $35 joining fee ($70
first year), or a $350 refundable deposit for a lifetime membership. This
entitles you to two membership cards. There is no membership charge for
children.

Product Selection
The co-op will offer a wide variety of goods. The departments of our 4,000
to 5,000 square foot store will include grocery, fresh produce, herbs,
bodycare, dairy, bulk foods and a deli. Since we will start out smaller than
most stores in Boulder, we plan to carry only the highest quality, most
socially responsible brands in each category. It is also our goal to
provide a greater proportion of bulk foods than any other store in Boulder.

Our focus will be on organically grown foods, locally produced when
available. Please contact us if you can supply locally produced goods or
know of someone who can. Your comments and suggestions regarding product
selection would be greatly appreciated. The co-op exists to serve its
members.

Thanks,
Steve Phillips
