This is important news for those of us planning to go
to anti-globalization
events in April in Quebec city!
Critical Mass Cyclists Arrested
for Blockading the Border
On Friday, June 2, in defiance to the Canadian
government's
unwillingness to allow border crossings, 20 to 30
cyclists were
surrounded and violently arrested with no warning on
the Detroit side of the
border. Repeatedly, activists attempting to cross from
the US into Canada
have been denied access. One would-be protestor noted
"The FTAA like NAFTA
lets capital move as freely as it wants, but people
are
systematically oppressed." As has happened in Seattle,
D.C., and during
Mayday events around the world, police response in
Windsor has been
violent, repressive, and as usual, unnecessary.
Activists have been
reporting numerous cases of police harassment by
Windsor police. The
intent is clearly to create atmosphere of tyranny.
