Wed 2/7 screening: The War on Drugs
Hi all,
Hope you'll be able to join us next Wednesday at 7:00 at the Boulder Public
Library for a screening of The
War on Drugs. If the popular movie Traffic has helped raise public consciousness about our
senseless drug war, this film will back up that view with some cold, hard
facts. The program will also feature a short on the subject produced locally by
the Activist Media Project. As always, a lively discussion will follow the
feature screening.
This screening, part of the monthly Films For Change series, is co-presented by a
whole host of community and independent media organizations including: the
Activist Media Project, Association of Independent Video and Filmmakers,
Boulder Magazine, Community Television (CATV-54), the Colorado Daily, Free
Speech Internet Television, Free Speech TV, KGNU, KWAB, Left Hand Books,
ReClaim Democracy, Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center, and the Solstice
Foundation.
Best wishes,
Jon Stout

The War on Drugs
Frank Wiering & Cristina Berio
Every second $630 is spent by the US government to fight the war on drugs.
Every 20 seconds, someone is arrested on a suspected drug crime. Every day, 117
people are convicted of a drug offense with a 5-year mandatory minimum
sentence. The war on drugs rages fiercely, but after several years and the
criminalization of a generation, who is winning? This hard-hitting Dutch
documentary made for VPRO TV examines the drug war which has fostered a booming
business where huge amounts of money are earned by the police, the judiciary
system, and the prison-industrial complex.
