[Announce-DAN] Upcoming events, alerts

Hi,

Please make two calls to your legislators today. The first is to ask President Bush to take the U.S. off hair trigger alert on nuclear weapons See info below.

The second is to call Joan Fitzgerald, State Senator who is in charge of the committee in the State Senate which will be looking at the issue of labeling genetically engineered foods. Her number is 303-866-4873. Tell her you support the Genetically Engineered Food Labeling Act of 2001. If you live in her district, let her know that. If you live in Adams County, call Stephanie Takis 303-866-4855 and Alice Nichol 303-866-4865 with the same message. Thanks.

Also, the hearing on the GE food labeling bill is next Monday (Feb. 12) at the State Capitol S354 from 1 to 5 p.m. We'd like a big crowd. Please take the afternoon off and join us there. To carpool from Boulder, meet at the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center at noon (1520 Euclid).
See upcoming events below.

Also just wanted to remind everyone that the People's Summit on Globalization will be March 8-11 at CU, Boulder. Lots of great speakers, workshops, strategy sessions and panels. Please put it on your calendar and check out http://powerful.as/people for more details.

Alert on Hair Trigger for Nuclear Weapons:

Dear Friends of DontBlowIt.org,

You've heard of trigger locks on handguns to avoid accidental firing, right? Well, its time our nuclear weapons - the world's big guns - are trigger locked and taken off high alert status. One false alarm could turn into nuclear war.

During his Presidential campaign, George W. Bush said that having thousands of US and Russian nuclear weapons on hair- trigger alert, "may create unacceptable risks of accidental or unauthorized launch."

We need your help in calling President Bush on his word! Please join us in a National Call-In Day to the White House to tell the President to work with the Russians to take all nuclear weapons off hair-trigger alert.

Call the White House at (202) 456-1414 on Monday or Tuesday, February 5 or 6th.

PRESS "0" [zero] FOR THE COMMENTS LINE OPERATOR. (You may be put on hold for a few minutes.)

Feel free to use your own words, but here is a script you can use if this is your first time voicing your opinion to the White House. It's so easy, you'll be surprised.

~
