(Thanks to Cyrus for taking notes!)

Students for Green Party Candidates
Meeting Minutes for 9/27/00

Discussion was opened with announcements.
* Colorado Nader 2000 is handing out literature on Perl street during
the weekdays (weekends as well?). Contact Brett for more information
on were to meet during the day to get literature.
* This sunday, from 12:00-6:00 is "The Green Party in the Park" at
Washington Park in Denver. See denvergreenparty.org for more info.
* Ralph Nader is going to be on the Late Show with David Letterman on
Thursday, 9/28/00.
* cspan.org has posted the Nader super rally from Minnesota. See "Recent
Programs" on the following web page: http://www.cspan.org/campaign2000/

The CU student presidential debates were talked about next.
* Date has been set: Oct. 24
* 2-3 people per group (probably 2)
* We need people to volunteer (is this still the case?) who want to
spend the time needed to prepare.
* The group we put up to debate needs to be gender balanced
* Debates will be moderated by a representative from UCSU
* There are meetings going on once a week to discuss further details.

Next was the CU Vote 2000 update.
* Needs manpower for the end push this week (9/27-9/29)
* Need people for "Dorm Storms." each dorm storm takes about 2 hours.
* For those who are interested, meet at Baby Doe's at 6:45 Thursday
(9/28), Sunday(10/1), Monday(10/2), or Tuesday(10/3).
* People will be hand for the football game Saturday.
* All Vote 2000 activities are non-partisan.
* A suggestion was given that people should do announcements in classes.
One should just ask their teacher before class if it is all right to
make a quick announcement for CU Vote 2000. Make sure you have plenty
of forms on hand.
* Registration forms can be found in the Engineering Center, Regent,
Norlin Library, UCSU, and maybe the Environmental Center.
* If you have time, please xerox the forms you collect so we can forward
them to the DC office for later phone solicitation.

Brett next announced some events he's has been working on.
* Voter awareness event on Oct. 18th at Chatauqua, aimed at non-voters.
It will be in panel format with the other parties. The discussion will
be non-partisan on the topic of voting.
* On Oct. 3rd (same day as first presidential debates) at 7 pm. there will
be a panel discussion/debate on the presidential candidates. The event
will be in the Cockrell lounge and is being sponsored by a local RA.
* For more information on ether event (aka, if you want to get involved),
give Brett a call at 786-0905.

Next the rumor that Nader and Buchanan may be on Fox on Oct. 3rd, doing
a simulcast with the debates, was discussed. General consensus: cool.

Spinning off that topic, it was noted that everyone needs to be calling
and writing CBS, NBC, CNN, etc, about getting Ralph to debate with Gore
and Bush.

Next, Tom reminded us all the Barbara Ehrenreich was going to be in
town on the 11th. We are sponsoring this event and all are encouraged
to attend. Note: this is the night of the second(?) presidential debate.

The topic of tabling next week (10/2-10/6) was brought up.
* We want to table all week.
* Good time of day: 10:30-3:00
* There was a debate on where to table: UMC? On the Hill? Norlin? Rec. Center?
* Final decision was made to do it outside Norlin.
* Julie is reserving a table.

The Fight Apathy committee announced both Mother Earth and Devo ("Just
whip it!") would be making guest appearances on campus next week (Monday
and Tuesday), in support of Nader and Ron.

This brought up the fact that Ron has come out in support of Amendment 20
(medical marijuana). Both Ralph and Ron support ending the war on drugs.

Damon mentioned that Nader supports free higher education. Also,
there is now a citizen committee listed on the Nader website
(http://www.votenader.com/press/000925citizen_committee.html) and the
possibility of being able to get one of the people listed to speak at CU.

The "Campus Crusade for Nader" gave an update on the room situation.
* 23rd won't work.
* Nor will the 30th.
* The 1st (of November) will, however, it would have to be in the ballroom
and we would have to pay $11/hr per for security guards due to possible
protests.
* The band that was approached is still very interested, but we need to
get them a date.

The Colorado Daily wants two written articles, one for Nader, one for Ron,
on why people should vote. We need folks to write these.

Upcoming Rallies:
* 11th for Forthofer
* 10th at the Fountain (12:00)- however, this rally needs to be discussed
and put together still.
* Rally committee needs to meet.

Somehow we need to get numbers on shirt sales when we tabled earlyer in
the semester.

10,000+ pieces of literature is coming into town soon and volunteers
are needed to go door to door to distribute it. More on this will be
discussed next meeting.

The first showing of Bullworth went "okay" to "well", depending on who
you asked, and there will be another showing tomorrow night (9/28).

The issue of e-mail lists was next discussed.
* Debate was had on whether to have two lists or one digest list.
* Decision was made to have two lists - one for announce and one for discussion.

Damon discussed some Colorado wide issues.
* The Colorado Green Event Calendar is now up at
http://www.metaevents.com/denvergreens/
* Please add your Green related events to the calendar as it helps coordination.
* All websites are in need of design help. If you are a crack graphic
artist you're in need.
* Other schools across the country are havng large success with "Keggers
for Nader."
* If anyone is interested in hosting a house party to do fundraising,
they should e-mail houseparty@votenader.org.

The final item of the meeting was the "Peoples conference on Globalization."
* The organizers need input.
* Are we going to get involved in sponsoring, designing, and putting on
the convention?
* The conference will be the 2nd week in March.
* There is hope that there will be some international delegates.
* Looking for speakers on both sides of the issue.
* Meeting at 8 pm. HLMS 141 on Monday for those who are interested.
* There is a meeting this next week.
* For information or suggestions, contact seac2@colorado.edu

End meeting.
