Re: GPOCC Re: Montrose meeting -- Denver Greens

Brad,

Good hearing from you. I don't know if the council has the authority to vote
on an issue such as this - the acceptance of a local into the GPoC. Perhaps
Dean or Davey could answer that.

But the question of the membership voting electronically came up in the past
and I'm not sure where it went. When the computer has so compressed distance
is it still necessary to hold a meeting in a physical space for the
membership to vote on such issues? Local chapters could take their tallies
and a representative of each local could report by e-mail to a central
address. Such procedures would not and could not replace face-to-face
meetings which are essential for the life of the state party.

I agree with Davey and others who believe it is imperative to act soon in
accepting new locals into the party.

Give my best to Russell and wish him well for me,

Bill

<< Hi All - We just had the monthly meeting of the Denver Green Party, and it

appears that, except for Jason Stout, no one from Denver will be able to

attend the Montrose meeting. It just seems very difficult for any of us to

get away right now - what with the Nader appearance/rally on Sunday at the

Mercury Café (11:40AM to 3:20PM) and the Globalization Forum on Monday at

Auraria.

Thanks to the Montrose folks for hosting the meeting - I for one would like

to get back to my old stomping grounds - I lived in Montrose, and worked for

WCC, from 1982-1985. But it's not to be. If we can accept the Montrose

group via the Council, that would be great! Also, I like the idea that the

next GPOC meeting be in Summit County, a pretty central location.

This list will also be interested to know that Russell Rendon has just

resigned as co-chair of the Denver Greens, so as to be able to devote more

time to his students at Manual High School. We'll miss Russell as an

officer, (and as a traveling companion to Western Slope meetings), but he

still plans on coming to the DGP monthly meetings, the Diversity Committee

meetings, etc. The newly-elected person who will fill out his term is Mina

Nichols, the editor of our newsletter and a tremendously energetic person.

I'm sure you'll be meeting her!
