Hi folks,
Please help us spread the word about the RALLY and LOBBY DAY for the
Bicycle Safety Bill on February 12th. And please try to come, if only for
the rally at 8:00 am. Organizations and businesses should try to send at
least one representative to the Lobby Day portion. Individuals are welcome
too. This is our chance to show the Colorado State Legislature that this
bill is important to bicyclists! Please forward this message far & wide.
RALLY TO SUPPORT THE BICYCLE SAFETY BILL
Join Bicycle Colorado for a brief (and chilly) rally and press conference
to support the Bicycle Safety Bill currently in the State Legislature. Ride
a bike if you can! Weíll provide hot drinks and muffins.
WHERE: West steps of the State Capitol in downtown Denver
WHEN: Monday, February 12th, 8:00 to 8:30 am (yes, morning!)
LOBBY TO SUPPORT THE BICYCLE SAFETY BILL
Immediately after the rally, many of us will go into the Capitol and talk
with our legislators about the bill. Please join us. Weíll meet in the
cafeteria in the Capitol basement at 8:30 am for a briefing. If you can
attend, please let Bicycle Colorado know (via phone or e-mail) so we can
set up appointments with your legislators. Rookies are welcome!
The Bicycle Safety Bill, SB 01-59, modifies the state traffic code. It
provides additional protection against turning vehicles, establishes a safe
passing distance of 3 feet, simplifies the single file rule, clarifies that
bicyclists on paths can ride through crosswalks and legalizes signaling a
right turn with the right hand. Read the bill at
<http://www.bicyclecolo.org/>www.bicyclecolo.org. The Senate Transportation
Committe is scheduled to vote on the bill on February 6th. If the Committee
supports it, the bill goes to the full Senate for a vote.

Thanks,
