2-12: ACTION ALERT! SB 177 (Criminal Sentencing Reform & Prison Moratorium Bill)

Hi everyone!   To update you, representatives from the Prison Moratorium
Coalition went to the capitol today to lobby members of the Senate Judiciary
Committee.  Senators Linkhart and Windels are strongly on board.   We spoke
at length with Sen. Gordon who indicated that he would consider whether he
would support any aspect of SB 177 but he can't support the bill in its
entirety.    So we need to find 2 more votes.  The two most likely are
Senator Rob Hernandez (D-Denver) who should be supportive and Senator Jim
Dyer (R-Littleton). I have been told that Sen. Dyer is more moderate and
might be willing to consider supporting SB 177.      We must not give up. 
Increased pressure is critical.

SENATE HEARING:  SB 177 will be heard before the Senate Judiciary Committee
on Wednesday, Feb. 14th at approximately 2:30 p.m. in Committee Hearing Room
353 (3rd Floor).  PLEASE SHOW UP!   WE NEED TO LET THE COMMITTEE KNOW THE
EXTENT OF COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR PRISON POLICY CHANGE.   Please bring along 
members from your organization, friends and family, if possible.
