2/14 - HB 1114 URGENT ALERT: Stop Racial Profiling

THIS IS AN URGENT ALERT FROM COLORADO PROGRESSIVE COALITION!

Stop Racial Profiling: Support HB 1114 (Feb. 14, 2001 alert)

Representative Peter Groff's House Bill 1114, requiring law enforcement
agencies to collect data on all traffic stops made, is one of this year's
most important civil rights and racial justice bills at the state
legislature. The bill will (most likely) be up tomorrow, Thurs. morning,
on second reading on the House floor and the votes are very tight. We
currently have more than 30 votes (we need 33 at a minimum) but expect some

conservative legislators to try to weaken--or kill--the bill when it comes
up. Without pressure from people across the state, HB 1114 may be killed.

PLEASE MAKE A CALL (OR CALLS) TODAY!

The following state representatives have not committed to us their "yes"
vote. Please call them NOW and ask them to vote "yes" on HB 1114 to require

the collection of data on traffic stops. HB 1114 will help us learn if
Colorado has a serious racial profiling problem in our state, where that
problem is, and so that we can begin to take steps forward to stop
discriminatory policing. The bill has received bi-partisan support (its
first committee vote was 7 to 2 with four Democrats voting yes and three
Republicans) and costs the state no money (a key concern for many
legislators).

CALL THESE LEGISLATORS NOW TO VOTE YES ON HB 1114!
Call the ones closest to you or call them all--just call today (Wed.)!
