[nader-colo-students] Need help with campus data entry (Please save this message)

Hi,

The Nader 2000 campaign has decided to make the "Get Out the Vote" 
drive a huge part of its campaign.  They are asking us to collect the 
names, email, address, and phone number of anyone who would possibly 
vote for Nader on November 7th.

They will be doing this by phone, mail, and maybe email.  In order
for 
this to work, we all need to find the people for them to contact. 
The 
easiest way is to copy voter registration forms, and other volunteer 
sign-up sheets you have collected.  Voter registration should be our 
top priority right now, so hopefully we are all getting at least ten 
filled out a day.  

Also get names of potential supporters, and other progressive 
individuals on campus.  If name collection is going perfectly, you 
will have contact lists from all progressive groups on campus, all 
newly registered voters, and all students, faculty, and staff that 
have expressed interest in the Nader campaign by coming to an
Students 
for Nader, houseparty, teach-in, rally, or other event. 

Once you have contact information for someone, there are two ways to 
get it in the "Get Out the Vote" database.

1. send an email to me (dhaley@greens.org) of contacts in the 
following format:

first_name 
last_name 
email 
address_line1 
address_line2 
zip 
daytime_phone 
nighttime_phone 
party_affiliation 
level of support 

If you only have address, phone, or email, still send me the 
information.

2. you can also enter the information into the database yourself by 
going to:
http://green.votenader.org/voterid/

Note: THIS IS THE PREFERRED METHOD

  Then do the following steps:
  1. Click the top link that says:
     "Students should click here to enter voter IDs"
  2. Type in your email address and press "Submit"
  3. Click the "Click to register" link on the "E-mail Not found" page
  4. Type in your information and click "Enter Information"
     --REMEMBER YOUR PASSWORD--
  5. Click the "Click to enter voters" button on the "Registration 
Done" page
  6. Type the potential voter's information in and click "Enter 
Information"
  
Note: the database application requires you to enter a complete 
adress, including zip code.  If you don't know the zip code, you can 
find it at http://www.uswestdex.com or in your phone book.

It is preferrable that we know that the person has interest in voting 
for Nader.  Usually you know this, because they came by a Nader 
tabling event.  If you got there name from a non-partisan voter 
registration form, however, please try to call them to see if it is 
"worth the time" for the D.C. office to contact them.  

When you call them, you can use the following script:
"Hello, is _______________ available, please?  Hi ________, this is 
[your name], I'm a volunteer working for [the name of your students 
for Nader group].  We are conducting a survey of campus voters. Do
you 
know if you'll be supporting Ralph in the election this November?" 

1.  Rank the voters' level of support on the call list: 
                          1 = supporting 
                          2 = leaning supporting 
                          3 = undecided 
                          4 = non-supporting 
2.  If the voter is non-supporting, immediately thank him for his
time 
and hang up. 
3.  Try to discuss issues only with undecided voters and then only 
when necessary; identify what issues are important to the voter and 
note it on the calling sheet. 
4.  Ask undecided voters if they would like more information on the 
candidate. 
5.  Thank each voter when concluding a call. 
6.  When you have finished your call sheet, enter responses in the 
online database at http://green.votenader.org/voterid. 

Please let me know if you have any trouble as we'll make a major 
difference by following the steps above.
