2. TITLE:
Proposal to Hold 2007 State Meeting in Glenwood Springs/Carbondale on June 16 and 17 or June 23 and 24

3. FULL PROPOSAL:
The Green Party of Colorado will hold its 2007 annual meeting in the Glenwood Springs area on June 16 and 17, 2007 or on June 23 and 24, 2007.

The choices are:

• Agree on June 16th/17th
• Agree on June 23rd/24th
• Stand Aside
• Disagree/block (please state reason)

4. BACKGROUND:
An annual meeting of the state party is a requirement for our political party. This meeting is to select candidates for upcoming elections and make policies and bylaws for the state party.

This proposal has been discussed previously at the February Green Party Strategy Conference held in Evergreen, at Adams-Jefferson chapter meetings, and on the Green Party discuss lists. So far, all feedback has been positive or just inquisitive, nothing negative. A few Green members know friends and associates in the Glenwood Springs area who will probably assist with the event. We will also continue to solicit more help and advice of other Green members to make the event a success.

So far, the organizing committee consists of Tanya Ishikawa, Tom Kelly and Bruce Meyer. Others are invited to join.

5. Justification/Goals:
see above and below.

• 1) The Glenwood Springs area is accessible by I-70, and is a central location within 2-4 hours of all local Green chapters. It is a more convenient location than some active but distant chapters like Poudre Valley or Southwest, which would take some people about 8 hours to drive.
• 2) The recommended dates are June 16 and 17, due to good driving conditions, school breaks, and amount of time before November elections.
• 3) A two-day event would allow one day of training and re-energization activities, and one day of strategizing and policy-making. This would help the party be more effective during campaigns and elections, as well as strengthen our unity.

7. Cons:

• 1) The meeting would not be in a town with an active local chapter.
• 2) There is only about two months to plan it.
• 3) Even with the training day as an optional day, the promotion of a two-day event may discourage some members from going due to the time commitment.

8. Estimate of Fiscal Impact:
As the Green Party of Colorado has very limited funds in its accounts, the planning of this event would be conducted so as to not incur state expenses. Donations of meeting facilities and other items would be obtained when organizing it. However, additional money is expected to come into the party due to springtime fundraising events. So, if any expenses are found that can not be covered by donation, a proposal will be sent to council to request coverage of those specific amounts.

9. Alternative to the Proposal:

1. Holding the meeting on another date, later in June or later in the summer.
2. Holding the meeting in a location with a local chapter to host.
3. Holding the meeting in Salida, also a location within about 2-5 hours of all chapters
4. Limiting the event to one day.
