PROPOSAL NUMBER: 015-04

1. Date proposed: 7/16/04
Name of the sponsor(s):
Charlie Green, GPCO delegate to the GPUS CC
Lanny Kness, GPCO Co-Chair

2. PROPOSAL SUBJECT:
Electing Dave Chandler to serve as a National Delegate to the GPUS Coordinating Committee

3. FULL PROPOSAL:
This proposal requests the Council elect Dave Chandler to serve as a National Delegate to the GPUS Coordinating Committee, replacing Charlie Green.

4. BACKGROUND:
Charlie Green, our present GPUS Delegate, is somewhat overextended and would like reduce his Green workload. Dave would take his position on the CC and he would become an alternate.

5. JUSTIFICATION/GOALS:
We need a GPCO Delegate and, if an agreeable change is offered, we should accept that offer. It is also good for these positions to be rotated periodically within the GPCO membership.

Chandler's Resume
-----------------
Dave Chandler and his family have made their home in Arvada, Colorado, for over thirteen years. He and his wife have two children attending public schools. He runs a home-based desktop publishing business and is editor of www.Earthside.com. He presently writes editorials and political commentary mostly for web-based publications.

Dave was chairperson of the local Sierra Club-Rachel Carson Group from 2001-2002 and was chairperson of the Accountability Committee at his daughter's school from 2002 to 2004. He has previously run for Arvada city council and has been a leader in balanced growth and government reform efforts in Arvada since 1995.

Dave Chandler was the Green Party candidate for U.S. House of Representatives for Colorado's Seventh Congressional District in 2002. He is currently chairperson of the Jefferson County, Colorado, Green Party; he was a delegate to the 2004 Green Party National Convention in Milwaukee.

A native of Wyoming, he moved to Colorado in 1987. Dave earned a degree in History from Metropolitan State College of Denver.

During his many years of political activism in Wyoming and Colorado, he was elected the youngest state committeeman in the Wyoming Democratic Party in 1976 and was employed by the re-election campaign of U.S. Congressman Teno Roncalio also in 1976. In 1992, he served as the Jefferson County chair of Bill Clinton’s presidential primary campaign. After being registered unaffiliated for several years, Dave became a Green in January 2002.

His home-based business has allowed him the flexibility to play a major role in raising his children. He has proudly spent most of the last sixteen years as a stay-at-home dad.

6. PROS AND CONS:
Benefits:
Dave would be good in this position.
Drawbacks:
Dave might find out it is more than he is willing to commit to. (Not the first time that has happened!)
The GPCO will be underrepresented on the CC.

7. Alternatives to the proposal
Make Charlie Green stay on as GPCO delegate.
Find a different individual to fill the position.
