Status of State Green Parties in the US

See also: GP-US' states list.

The G/GPUSA used to maintain an Affiliates list. However, as of Feb 4 2002 most of the groups listed do not exist or are no longer affiliated with G/GPUSA. So, until they update it, the page at this link is essentially a fraud.

Notes:
  1. ``active'' indicates Green organizing is happening in the state. There is at least one established local.
  2. ``can reg.'' means when you register to vote in this state you can declare yourself a member of the ``Green Party.''
  3. ``on ballot'' means the ``Green Party'' has a ballot line in this state.
  4. ``GPUSA'' means a statewide Green Party is affiliated with the Greens/Green Party USA (tG/GPUSA).
  5. ``GP of the US'' means there is a state party which has been recognized by and has affiliated with the Green Party of the United States
  6. Years ago, when tG/GPUSA was larger, there were states with no formal Green organization at the statewide level, but with Green Party locals mostly affiliated with tG/GPUSA. I counted those states in "GPUSA's column" to accurately portray their factional alignment. As far as I know, there are now (Jan 7 2002) no such states. If you know of a state that is not a tG/GPUSA affiliate where the majority of Green locals are affiliates, please let me know.

Independently researched by Cameron Spitzer. There are Green locals in the US which do not wish to make information about themselves available on the World Wide Web. If your state party is not listed here, it may be because there is no evidence available on-line of more than one active local in your state. Ask your state organization to contact me.

Some of this information is in dispute: in states where there is only one local but it's pretty strong, that local may consider itself the state Green Party. The most frequent complaints are about Maine and Missouri. The Green Party of Wyoming may have dissolved. I do not attempt to arbitrate or resolve these disputes.
