Stericcycle’s medical waste incinerator is in a mixed race St. Louis community. It continuously emits vapors that contain dioxin and mercury, as well as other toxins. Dioxin from the stack spreads several hundred miles, while mercury affects people within a few miles surrounding the burner. Dioxin is associated with lower intelligence in children of affected mothers, as well as with higher rates of diabetes and several types of cancer. Mercury is associated with neurological developmental problems in children under six years of age. Physician Dan Berg and ACORN’s Gail Schumpert team up with Green Time host Don Fitz to discuss what should be done with the medical waste incinerator in north St. Louis.

Green Time is winner of the 1999 DHTV Excellence Award for Best Informational Show. Green Time, St. Louis' only environmental cable TV show, is produced by the Gateway Greens in conjunction with DHTV Ch. 21 on TCI City Cable in St. Louis.
